EN 1997-2 Ground Properties

Those of you who have grown to know and love Eurocode 7 part 2 will be pleased (but not as much as I am) that redrafting of this Standard has just been ‘completed’.

I know because we submitted the draft (in accordance with our contract) to NEN (acting on behalf of CEN) in the last few days. However, please do not hold your breath – there are a number of procedures yet top be followed and so this will not be out before 2023.

However the new version is completely different. instead of long lists of tests, the sections now cover the parameters the designer wishes to know, and then lists methods of obtaining those parameters.

Most importantly as far as I personally am concerned is that the first clause is ‘Ground Model’ and although short this is very significant. this is followed by short clauses dealing with the mandatory Desk Study and Site Inspection.

Happy reading.
